The Eco Campus initiative aim to reduce the campus energy intensity. The baseline and benchmarking study on the NTU energy consumption consumption is performed to evaluate our year-on-year performance in comparison with our baseline in the year 2011. This exercise is conducted by analyzing energy usage campus, zone and buildings level. Further analysis is conducted to identify the change of energy consumption patterns.
The study aims to identify the high intensity area in the NTU campus, in order to find ways on improving the electrical consumption of these building. Moreover, from the identification of the consumption pattern change, we aim to understand the area require improvement.
Methodology & Challenges
This is a continuous exercise, to assist the relevant stakeholder understand the energy consumed today, and identify the improvement. It also assist to engage the users to be more prudent in consuming energy. The process describe as follow. Data collection: In here, we cleaned, aggregate, and analyze the type of data obtained. Identify Gap in Baseline. The gap in the baseline varied as we varied and challenge our objective year-on-year. Develop and Analyze Load Profile: This exercise will bring us to better understanding on the energy intensity at various area. Verification and Define Baseline: Knowledge from various building stakeholders assist to provide a rounded information and develop better analysis. Baseline of the year can be define. Data Gap – Collection: In the case of complex entities like NTU, this exercise is conducted to allow more focus improvement. Improvement and Savings: This is an indicator of the performance on year. Continuous exercise need to be conducted to maintain and improve.
The Campus Energy Profile
The exercise provide us with indicator on the energy consumers area in the campus. The overall campus energy intensity is reducing year-on-year. Figure 1 indicates the overall campus energy consumption.
The exercise allow us to understand the overall breakdown of the campus energy usage. We understand that more 50% energy consumed in the campus by building occupied by the various schools in the campus. More details can be found in the figure bellow.

This exercise also indicates the energy intensity of schools in NTU. We learnt the types of the category of energy consumer in the School.
Future work in this exercise is to understand the consumption of the auxiliary and common services and identify energy guzzler in the school better. Figure bellow indicates this is the second biggest consumer in the campus.
